During the week, I live with a host family in la urbanizaction, Santo Domingo, which is about 20 minutes drive outside of the capital of Madrid. They have 3 kids (1, 7, and 10), and each morning I teach Alvaro (10) and Mercedes (7) English lessons. Our topics vary from things in the house, the body, and sports, to learning questions like "what is your name", "where are you from" and "do you want to play Wii?"
This has been a very rewarding (sometimes challenging) experience, and something I'm very glad I have the opportunity to do.
Since I have my weekends free, I will travel to Seville, Barcelona, and Toledo. This is the most exciting part of the trip as I get to do whirl wind tours of new cities, and see some of the most beautiful sites in the world.
The program I did this through is called, Geo Visions, and the segment I'm in is called Conversation Corps. For more information visit their website at http://www.geovisions.org/. They have programs for work, travel, and study in addition to what I'm doing. You can go for 1 month to 12 months, it all depends on your schedule and what you want to do.
I always encourage everyone to do as much traveling as they can, as that's truly the best way to learn about your surroundings, the world, and yourself. Enjoy!
